Piston Rods

At YAF Engineering, we offer high-precision piston rod reconditioning services using the most advanced method available today: laser cladding. This process allows us to restore worn piston rods to original dimensions, surface integrity, and hardness levels with unmatched precision and durability.

Upon receipt, all piston rods undergo detailed inspection and calibration for diameter, surface hardness, and roughness, ensuring that each component meets OEM tolerances before and after reconditioning.

Advantages of laser cladding:

  • Produces uniform weld quality with minimal heat input
  • Achieves hardness levels up to HB 500
  • Enables accurate restoration of surface geometry
  • Ensures excellent bonding of hardfacing material with the base metal

Piston rod reconditioning procedure:

  • Pre-machining of worn areas to remove damaged material
  • Preheating of the piston rod to prepare for cladding
  • Robotic laser cladding on the running surface using specialized hardfacing powders
  • Stress relieving after welding to prevent distortion
  • CNC machining followed by MPI inspection (magnetic particle inspection)
  • Final grinding and dimensional verification in accordance with OEM specifications

For piston rods that were not originally surface-hardened, we also offer submerged arc welding as an alternative reconditioning method.
