Tailshaft - Propeller Works

The shafting system is fundamental to the safe and efficient operation of any vessel. During dry-docking periods, when access is possible and downtime is planned, thorough inspection and servicing of the shaft system is essential to ensure mechanical integrity, class compliance, and long-term performance.

The system generally consists of the tailshaft, propeller hub and blades, stern tube bearings, chrome liners, intermediate shaft and bearings, and several auxiliary elements.

At YAF Engineering, we combine specialist know-how, in-situ machining capability, and fully equipped workshops to deliver high-quality shaft system services.

Our shafting services include:

  • • Withdrawal and inspection of tailshafts
  • • Overhauling of propeller hub and blade mechanisms
  • • Stern tube white metal rebabbitting and precision machining
  • • Machining and new fabrication of chrome liners
  • • Chrome liner surface recovery via laser cladding
  • • Jack-up testing for vertical load and deflection assessment
  • • On-site machining of propeller blades and line boring of bearing housings
  • • Heavy-duty boring and machining for oversized components
  • • Shaft manufacturing using certified materials under class supervision

Our workshop is ABS-approved for tailshaft and rudder stock repairs using laser cladding technology, offering unmatched durability and performance restoration in compliance with international standards.
